Feature request: Add sound control option for WikiGames
Closed, ResolvedPublic1 Estimated Story PointsFeature

Description

Feature summary (what you would like to be able to do and where):
Allow users to turn off or mute sound specifically for the Wikipedia Games feature in the app settings.

Use case(s) (list the steps that you performed to discover that problem, and describe the actual underlying problem which you want to solve. Do not describe only a solution):

A user reported that while they’ve already disabled notifications in the app, the Wikipedia Games feature still plays sound, which cannot be turned off. This creates an inconsistent experience and doesn’t respect the user's preference for silent or discreet use.

Benefits (why should this be implemented?):
Aligns game behavior with the user’s global app notification/sound settings

Enhances accessibility and discretion, especially in quiet environments

Offers better control and personalization of the experience

Requirement

  • A setting is available within the apps setting menu.

Nice to have

  • Interactive control within the game.

Hi @SChekfa-WMF ,
The implementation is complete and ready for review. This change was merged directly into the archive calendar PR, so it’s included in the same APK as archive calendar. You can find the link below:

@WRai-WMF thank you! this looks great. just to clarify, sound is set to default upon game first entry, correct?
