Dated elections no longer top results in search preview on en.wikipedia
Closed, ResolvedPublicBUG REPORT

Description

Steps to replicate the issue (include links if applicable):

  • Start searching for an election like "2026 United States Senate elections" or "2028 United States Senate elections"
  • Note that the articles in question do not show up in the search result preview

What happens?:
See screenshots below. The dated elections I'm looking for aren't present in the top results, instead replaced with seemingly random other dated elections that have some, but not all, of the numerals in the year I'm looking for. Typing out the full title and pressing enter still brings me where I want to go, but at no point does the page appear in the preview.

What should have happened instead?:

Previously, starting to type "2026 united" yields "2026 United States Senate elections" in the top results. Likewise with 2028. I may have made this search as recently as yesterday and it worked fine. I wonder what has changed?

Software version (on Special:Version page; skip for WMF-hosted wikis like Wikipedia):

Sorry if I've been insufficiently detailed or have written this report wrong. Surely this is something that can be fixed?
