Description

The goal of this task is to gradually increase mentorship at Spanish Wikipedia.

Percentage of new accounts receiving a mentor at the moment: 70%. T392869: Incrementally increase mentorship at Spanish Wikipedia

Number of mentors
We advise to have one mentor for each batch of 500 newcomers joining each month. On average, es.wp gets 12,000 new accounts per month (March 2025), which means a need of +24 mentors.

Acceptance Criteria:

  • Increase Mentorship to 85% of new accounts at Spanish Wikipedia. Date: TBD

To be handled in a future task: Increase Mentorship to 100% of new accounts at Spanish Wikipedia.

We will reconsider this task in July since we've lost a few eswiki mentors recently and a few are marked as Away currently.

It's the next July already! Should we reconsider anything here?

@IZapico-WMF - thoughts?
It would be ideal to not stay in a permanent state of partially rolled out.
We can discuss more in the Ambassador meeting if you prefer.

Suggested next steps:

  1. @IZapico-WMF to reach out to the 22 manually assigned mentors to see whether any would be interested in becoming permanent mentors. This could help grow the pool of active mentors over time.
  2. Meanwhile increase automatic mentorship coverage from 70% to 85%. (this task)
  3. If mentorship continues to operate smoothly at that level, increase automatic mentorship to 100% before the end of the year. T285235: Provide a Growth mentor for 100% of new accounts at Spanish Wikipedia
