Steps to replicate the issue (include links if applicable):

What happens?:

Hello dear developpers,

Since the end of May 2025, in the new version of the visual Editor of Wikipedia, the possibility to introduce a source has been replaced by a very strange new function with a symbol like a "+" which permit only to introduce Citation, Bloc Code and... Hieroglyps ?

So, it becomes impossible to improve an article or a page by adding a new source like a article, book and website.

How could we recover the old version of the editor which has been perfectly designed to be used on an smartphone ?

Thbak your for your help,

What should have happened instead?:

The function to introduce a source should be restored in the visual Editor. 50% of the connections on internet is realized by smartphone since 2020.
Ask the need of wiki users before to change a great function.

Software version (on Special:Version page; skip for WMF-hosted wikis like Wikipedia):

Other information (browser name/version, screenshots, etc.):
Firefox, Samsung Internet on Andoid System with Samsung A13.

Oups sorry :

On a wikipage,

1 - connect yourself on your account
2 - on the wikipage, clck on the icon like a pen (modify),
3 - launch the visual editor and .... cry --》the sub menu "add source" symbolised by this symbol : " has disapeared. So, impossible to use your browser on your smartphone to edit, add and modify sources on a page (???). Inconcevable.

Thanks for your help.

Hello,

The function "= "add source" present in the visual editor on Firefox on a PC Tablet Acer and now strangely vanished on the browser on smartphone.

Thanks for your help

That's T385851: Introduce additional tools within the mobile visual editor's "+" menu – recently deployed to French Wikipedia per T388604.
@Caerula_Sanguis your mobile screenshot in T395852#10877534 still shows the option to insert a citation after clicking on the + symbol and then clicking on the " citation symbol? Doesn't seem to be "impossible", it's an extra click compared to the desktop version, but that's the trade-off for allowing additional mobile menu options?

Hello,

Well thank you. I need a to drink an herbal tea and to sleep!
Have a Nice day

Quick update: https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/c/mediawiki/extensions/Citoid/+/1154193 is going to go out this week, which is going to change the translation for that menu item in French from "Citation" (which can apparently translate to either "citation" or "quote"), to "sourcer" (which is less ambiguous).

We're also looking at finally updating the icon to not be obviously-a-blockquote. (See: T334326.)
