A donor received a receipt with the wrong name for their Apple Pay donation. Erich reviewed the donor’s name in both Gravy (Transaction ID efcc8e39-2a0e-47e5-81d3-2db0338f705a) and Adyen (J87NX9BH3C6658B9), and it is correct. However, in CiviCRM, the donation appears to have been assigned to a different person, CID 56296754.
The postal address, with the exception of the country, matches the one on file in Adyen, which suggests that Civi may have pulled the address correctly from Gravy, Adyen, or Apple Pay—but not the name. There's no history of deduping.
Can someone please look into what could’ve happened?

Hi @SHust it looks like that CID has had the email address associated with the new payment since July 2022, so the donation was added to that contact based on a matching email address.
For Apple Pay donations, since we get the name automatically from their Apple Pay config and had seen a lot of low-quality name data (see T298547 and comments on T296881), we decided to ignore the name from incoming Apple Pay donations when we already had any name for the donor. In this case, the new name from Apple Pay does seem better than the name currently on the donor, but it hasn't often been.
So this has nothing to do with Gravy, just our quirky handling of Apple Pay names.
I'm not sure I understand, sorry! Looking at the CID activities, the name has been correct since 2022, and it matches the one used for the 2022 donation as well as the 2025 Apple Pay donation. However, the thank-you email went out with a completely different name, which made me wonder if this might be a communication issue between Gravy and Civi.
@SHust I only see a single copy of 56296754's email address ever created in Civi, and it was created in 2022 with a contact having the 'M' name, which I can see when I look in the logging table. Unfortunately we don't keep TY email activities that far back, and it's hard to see the name fields in the changelog, so the best I can show you in the Civi UI is this changelog (which includes changes to a couple of donors). https://civicrm.wikimedia.org/civicrm/report/instance/544?reset=1&log_conn_id=62e0f084bade8SbEK&cid=56296754 . The 5th row down has the CID in question and show the email and postal greeting as having the 'M' name. Since the 2025 Gravy donation was Apple Pay, we ignored the 'changed' name, even though to a human eye it's clearly more appropriate for the given email address.
Is there another CID that you think the new donation should have been attached to, or is the problem just that the name didn't get updated?
Thanks for the additional information confirming that from the system’s perspective, the name has always been "M," @Ejegg! We couldn’t see that on our end, so your clarification is really helpful. Since this appears to be a one-off, if you don’t see anything else, feel free to close the ticket. Thanks again!
