Steps to replicate the issue (include links if applicable):
- Open the Wikipedia iOS app (e.g., version 7.7.5.5231).
- Visit an article that uses {{efn}} in the main content and {{Notelist}} in the Notes section.
Examples:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_Discovery#Notes
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GWR_locomotive_numbering_and_classification#Notes
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Trump#Notes
What happens?:
Inline footnote labels appear correctly as [a], [b], etc.
Pop-up previews when tapping a footnote also show the correct label.
But in the {{Notelist}} section, all footnotes are shown as [0], instead of matching their proper alphabetical labels.
Clicking items in the Notelist still jumps to the correct part of the article.
What should have happened instead?:
The Notes section should display the correct alphabetical footnote labels ([a], [b], etc.), consistent with their inline and pop-up representations.
Software version (on Special:Version page; skip for WMF-hosted wikis like Wikipedia):
Wikipedia iOS app version 7.7.5 (5231)
Affected on iOS 16.7.11 and iOS 18.4.1
Other information (browser name/version, screenshots, etc.):
One user confirmed the issue still appears in the latest version (7.7.5) after reinstalling the app.
Another user on-wiki (Verbarson) confirmed the same behavior with multiple article examples.
The issue does not occur in Safari or desktop browsers — only in the iOS app.
