update WDQS UI dashboard to account for graph split
Open, HighPublic

Description

Wikidata Analytics Request

This task was generated using the Wikidata Analytics request form. Please use the task templates linked on our project page to create tasks for the team. Thank you!

Purpose

We are tracking some metrics for the WDQS UI at https://grafana.wikimedia.org/d/000000290/wikidata-query-service-ui?var-interval=1d&orgId=1&from=now-30d&to=now&timezone=utc
Since the graph was split this dashboard only gives us a partial picture. It only tracks the metrics for query.wikidata.org. We are missing out on the other UIs (-main and -scholarly especially). We should change the dashboard to account for these while still being able to have the metrics for each of them separately. A solution like on this dashboard seems great: https://grafana.wikimedia.org/d/000000489/wikidata-query-service?orgId=1&from=now-7d&to=now&timezone=utc&var-cluster_name=wdqs-main&var-graph_type=%289102%7C919%5B35%5D%29&refresh=1m (It has a selector at the top to switch between the different services.)

Specific Results

Updated dashboard that provides the metrics for the other query services as well.

Hi, I'd like to work on this task. My understanding: add a graph/service selector to the WDQS UI dashboard (like the one in the linked wdqs-query-service dashboard) so we can view metrics per graph (-main, -scholarly) instead of just query.wikidata.org.
Am I on the right track, or is there a preferred approach/convention you'd like me to follow? Will get started and share a draft once I have something to show.

Hi, I'd like to continue working on this task, but I noticed the repo has moved to GitLab and my account is currently pending approval. Could someone help activate/approve my GitLab account so I can clone the repo and submit a patch? My developer username is: Anirudh_K.
In the meantime, I've cloned the repo read-only and started looking into the dashboard/selector setup, so I should be ready to push a patch as soon as access comes through.

Hi @Anirudh_KK 👋 Thanks for your interest in supporting on this task. The work to be done here involves editing dashboards on Grafana, which is something that isn't directly available to the community given edit rights and is more of an internal Wikimedia Foundation or Wikimedia Deutschland task. No worries on writing into this task, but it's sadly not something I expect you'd be able to work on.

I see that you're already a member of good first task, which is the perfect place to find tasks to pick up :) I'm also not able to expedite a request for a gitlab.wikimedia.org account, so let's wait for that process to take its course.

Again, thank you for your interest in supporting the movement with software development! We look forward to future contributions 😊

Thanks for the clarification, @AndrewTavis_WMDE! No worries, I'll step back from this one since it needs internal Grafana access. I appreciate you explaining that.
