[[2025 Coeur d'Alene shooting]] showing old version in Android app
Closed, ResolvedPublicBUG REPORT

Description

open App, search for Wess Roley, (in en) get just one result, click it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2025_Coeur_d%27Alene_shooting

article in app doesn't mention Brad Little or Wess Roley. (but the current version does. I see it fine in web browser)

swiped down a few times. first saw in beta, then installed version 2.7.50538-r-2025-06-24 and saw it there too.

more tags because this probably isn't an Android bug. I guess something isn't being purged somewhere? any other ideas for tags?

this particular article is no longer so outdated. but it was like this for hours.

I'll keep an eye out for other examples.

but are there records of purging to look at somewhere? logstash? it's not like one edit was missing, it was an active article so must have been multiple rounds of purges failing.

purge infrastructure on the CDN has been working as expected, no hiccups there. I guess this is already the case but is https://en.wikipedia.org/api/rest_v1/page/mobile-html/2025_Coeur_d%27Alene_shooting being purged as well?

There are a few bug reports (of varying age/characteristics) for the general idea of old page-revisions being cached for mobile apps/by PCS, that are sitting in the backlogs for the Page Content Service/Mobile-Content-Service/Page-Previews/RESTBase Phabricator projects. Collected a few of the ones I could find below, in case it's helpful to anyone looking into this:

Speaking as a lay-person, maybe a deeper investigation into root cause(s) here is warranted, seeing as this seems to be a perennial issue that (e.g.) can in some cases cause revision-deleted material to persist. (Apologies if this sort of work is ongoing already, and I'm not aware of it!)

Jgiannelos claimed this task.

This should be fixed by now after T397072

Out of interest, do you know if that includes the other open tasks in T398243#10964593?
