[Comms] Community Announcement: Visual Changes (Icons) to Wiki Search Results Pages (Pilot + Global Rollout)
Open, Stalled, Needs TriagePublic

Description

Background:

This is a subticket for the Community Communications Manager to draft and publish an announcement to inform communities about the upcoming visual changes to the search results pages, as detailed in parent ticket T397256.

These changes will affect both the pilot wikis and, eventually, the rest of the Wikimedia wikis. The goal of this communication is to raise awareness, provide clarity on what is changing, why it's being changed, and when it will be implemented.

Key points to include in the announcement:

  • Summary of the visual changes being introduced (e.g., updated layout, improved readability, styling changes)
  • Rationale for the changes (usability, consistency, user feedback, etc.)
  • Links to design mockups or screenshots (if available)
  • Timeline for deployment: Pilot wikis first, then Gradual/global rollout afterwards
  • Where to provide feedback (Phabricator task, talk page, etc.)
  • Contact/info point for questions

Audience:
All Wikimedia contributors, with emphasis on pilot wiki communities initially, then general awareness for global users.

Deliverables:

  • Draft message for pilot wikis
  • Publish message to pilot wikis
  • Draft message for broader rollout
  • Pages/channels for publishing: e.g., Village Pumps, Tech News, mailing lists (wikitech-l, etc.) -- if relevant

Please coordinate with the Product/Engineer/UX if additional visual assets or technical explanations are needed.
