What are the details of your request? Include relevant timelines or deadlines

The ask:
Legal requires that we update the footer or sidebar on every Wikimedia Project, so that this update is accessible on every page
This is in response to DSA and other legal requirements

Phase 1:
update 7 wikipedias first: French, German, Spanish, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Portuguese
(also see if there is feedback that needs to then be incorporate before further roll out)

Timeline:
Legal has requested that this be completed within 3 months (that is, roughly October '25)

• You'll see here on page 1 a table that shows what the change could look like in the footer ( / side bar)
• This will link to a new page that Legal will create (draft here in case you want to check it out)

Other Notes

• The new “Impressum” page would live on Foundation Governance Wiki, e.g. https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/Legal:Contact_WMF (to be created) ;
• A hyperlink to this page is added to the footer or sidebar of every Wikimedia Project, such that it’s accessible on every page (as per German “impressum” rules).
• Projects with an existing Contact link would need to have their existing one modified, to avoid ambiguity
• To be determined / discussed with design: If the new link makes the footer too lengthy… should the Statistics link maybe give way? After all, do we really need a Wikistats link on every single page?
• Phase 1 would see us roll this out to all sister projects (e.g. Wikidata) and, for Wikipedia, all languages in which we publish the TOU (or at least, the EU languages in which we publish the TOU). Phase 2 could roll this out more widely (this would require additional translation and PT assistance). More details and timing around this to come.

This is a legal requirement per the Digital Services Act and other similar requirements

Is this request urgent or time sensitive?

Yes - we need this by roughly October '25
