When looking at the latest dump files on https://dumps.wikimedia.org/wikidatawiki/entities/
The 2 dumps "latest-all.json.bz2" and "latest-all.json.gz", their sizes are very different(as of 09-Jul-2025 ):

At this moment, latest-all.json.bz2 is about 4.9GB however latest-all.json.gz is about 147GB.

Typically, before 09-Jul-2025, the latest-all.json.bz2 is around 90.4 GiB

I can confirm that, judging by a random Wayback Machine snapshot, the .bz2 file is usually an order of magnitude larger than it currently is. And as far as I’m aware, partial dumps shouldn’t appear on the website – the dump process takes a while, but dumps should only be linked there after they’ve been completed and stitched together.
