Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

This year at Wikimania, Language related sessions at Wikimania will entail explore language tools that support Wikimedia sites, hands-on experience with open source and collaborative discussions on new and smaller language support among other areas. There will be two sessions hosted at the Wikimania Hackathon Pre-conference on Aug 5th, Language tools & Language Technical tasks and additional community conversation spaces including New and smaller languages conversations and a language support table.

Language Tools

This session at Wikimania Hackathon, we'll focus on language tools at Wikimedia . We will begin with an overview of language tools across Wikimedia projects. These tools, such as Content/Section Translation, Translatewiki play a crucial role in helping editors work more efficiently by facilitating translation, internationalization and localization efforts. Furthermore, we'll provide insights into how various language editions are utilizing these tools to enhance their content growth within their respective communities. Participants will be expected to learn by doing and practically get to use these tools themselves. More here T400186

Language Technical tasks

Some of the requests will involve adding languages from projects (e.g., Translatewiki, MediaWiki core), adding font and keyboard support for languages, Translatewiki, and other miscellaneous language-related configuration changes such as Namespaces, Message fixes and many more.

Tasks will be groomed and curated from various language related boards. We will the share task ideas, onboard volunteers to find code repositories, submit patches, assist them with code reviews, and merging. Join us and make language related technical contributions! More here T400184
