The Dev Portal uses Matomo to gather analytics data. As far as I know, there is no way to filter out automated traffic from these stats. As of March 2025, we observe a huge spike in pageviews and visits which I suspect is mostly due to automated traffic. I'd like to investigate if any of the completed or upcoming work around automated traffic detection at WMF could mean that it would be possible for us to filter out automated visits from the Dev Portal metrics. Being able to view metrics that reflect human visits and human interactions enables us to assess the utility and performance of the dev portal content and information structure. Without the ability to filter out automated traffic, our ability to use these metrics to help inform content strategy is severely limited.
