As Wikimedia Deutschland we want to monitor how many Wikibases are using items from Wikidata to have a quantitative identifier about user value of this federation functionality.
Context:
- Our MVP for Federated Values is in progress
- When it's released we want to identify which Wikibases are using federation functionality and to what extend to monitor the usage
- We don't have any analytics system in place and don't plan to have it any time soon
- We do have the Scraper in place that is collecting some observation data through Action API, Query Service, HTML and stores it in wmcloud
- Relevant metrics:
- Number of Wikibases that have federation enabled
- Items from Wikidata that are used in Wikibase statements
AC:
- Identify technical touch points for generating relevant metrics
Answer to these questions:
- How can we measure that federation functionality is enabled on a Wikibase?
- How can we measure how many Wikidata items are requested on a Wikibase?
Open questions:
- Do we need to involve a spike into analytics systems?
