This task involves the work of drafting and publishing an announcement about Paste Check that includes information about both:
- The proposed user experience
- The controlled experiment the Editing Team is preparing to run to evaluate the feature's impact
Timline
Per what @Trizek-WMF, @MNeisler, and I (peter) discussed offline in separate conversations on 3 and 4 September, ideally the timeline for Paste Check will look like this:
| Milestone | Target Completion Date | Responsible | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Publish announcement | 16 Sep 2025 | @Trizek-WMF | 1st draft complete; review underway | |
| Start test | 22 Sep 2025 | Editing Engineering | ||
| End test | 31 October 2025 | Editing Engineering | ||
Learning objectives
- User experience: how – if at all – do experienced volunteers think the proposed user experience could either a) create more work for patrollers/reviewers or b) cause newcomers to publish edits that are not aligned with Wikipedia policies
- Controlled experiment: what – if anything – do experienced volunteers think needs revising/discussion/etc. before the controlled experiment can begin?
Wikis
While we are interested in hearing from volunteers across all Wikipedias, the Editing Team will prioritize outreach to the wikis listed in T403680 first.
Requirements
- An announcement is drafted that we think will be effective at causing volunteers to offer the feedback we need to answer the questions described in the Learning objectives section above
- This announcement is published at the wikis listed/referenced in the Wikis section above
