New York Times citations not being filled out with Citoid
Closed, ResolvedPublicBUG REPORT

Description

I'm not sure that this is the proper place, but a few years back I was [https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Topic:Vumb75xtigh3b1kr directed here] when I had a question in this vein.

Steps to replicate the issue (include links if applicable):

What happens?:

  • A citation is created without the author's first/last name or publication name

What should have happened instead?:

  • A fully formatted citation, which was the case until recently

Event Timeline

Did it have an archive.org link?

Periodically when we can't get access to nytimes we look for it in the internet archive. But the citation metadata tends not to be as good, because Zotero doesn't currently treat those links as a NYTimes article- see comment from the developers here:

https://github.com/zotero/translators/pull/3327#issuecomment-2204308343

(Alternatively it could be an outdated translator)

Checking the response, no archive.org but the response is coming from citoid, not zotero. Possibly the nytimes is temporarily blocking our zotero UA but not our citoid one, hence the worse metadata...

Thanks for the comment, @Mvolz! It looks like NYT citations are working again as of yesterday -- they did not work in the morning but did in the afternoon. I'll close the ticket.
