Permission error on user talk page
Closed, ResolvedPublicBUG REPORT

Description

I was reading User talk:Andrew Gray while logged out in desktop mode (Chrome browser) on a Pixel 6a. Then, I logged in because I wanted to leave a talk page message. I accidentally swipe backwards and am taken back to the login information but am not logged out. I get the error shown in the screenshot.

I open a new tab and manually type User talk:Andrew Gray into the search bar. I get the permission error again. Then I click the main page. I type the talk page in the search function one more time before it loads properly.

The page should've loaded regardless of whether I was logged in or not because it is a user talk page and visible regardless of user permissions. If it matters, I am an admin on the English Wikipedia.

This seems likely to be related to auth.wikimedia.org somehow.

@Clovermoss: Thanks for reporting this. For future reference, please use the bug report form (linked from the top of the task creation page) to create a bug report, and fill in all the sections in the template. Thanks.

I clicked "report a software bug"

. Is the task creation page different? Also, I did try to tag this but I didn't see any options for the English Wikipedia under projects. I saw some tags for the android app backlog, probably because of what I've tried to report before. I do want to be more thorough in the rare times I notice something but I really don't understand the process the way I want to. Is there a good guide somewhere? I'm not much of a techie.

Or do you mean keep the formatting and don't just describe everything in words?

Yes, ideally keeping that structure. :) Lists of steps are easier to follow for everyone... Thanks!

Not sure if its relavent, but logs have a bunch of:

Session "[50]CentralAuthSessionProvider<-:[number]:Clovermoss>[session id]: Unverified user provided and no metadata to auth it
Failed to load session, unpersisting
