"Add statement" property input field shows credit card autofill popup on Safari 26
Open, Needs TriagePublicBUG REPORT

Description

Steps to replicate the issue (include links if applicable):

  • Use the latest Safari and macOS version (listed below)
  • Have a credit card connected to macOS
  • Open a Wikibase item (for example, https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q18384474)
  • Try to add a statement, don't type anything yet

What happens?:

The system credit card autofill popup appears, taking focus instead of allowing to select a proposed property with my keyboard. The popup disappears on typing and also doesn't appear if there are multiple property input fields open. I don't remember this being an issue before upgrading to Tahoe (and its respective Safari version) earlier this week.

What should have happened instead?:

The credit card autofill popup should not be shown, this can be done by setting autocomplete to off (which is probably already done by JavaScript?).

Other information (browser name/version, screenshots, etc.):

Safari 26.0 (21622.1.22.11.14), macOS 26 (Tahoe)

Event Timeline

I've tested this on macOS 15 (Sequoia) and safari 18.6 and am unable to replicate the issue.

My updated iPad does want to enter my credit card into it (giving me the option above the keyboard), my iPhone running iOS 18 only suggests me to add a credit card by scanning it. Both aren't blocking me like the macOS behaviour. I feel Apple did broaden the scope of what they see as a credit card field in the new version, probably due to low correct autocomplete value adoption.

Now it thinks it's a input field to login or create an account:
