YiR: Update # of edits slide
Closed, ResolvedPublic1 Estimated Story Points

Description

Context

This year we are bringing the Year in Review feature to Android, after its initial deployment and iterations on iOS. The goal is to deepen engagement and increase retention of readers.

Requirements

  • Update the number of edits slide to match figma, available only to logged-in users
  • Display the total number of edits they have made during the time period January 1 - December 1, 2025 from their primary language Wiki
  • Only display edits from the article namespace
  • Display 500+ if they have more than 500 edits
  • Display only if a user has edited one or more articles. If they don't meet this criteria, show - the appropriate collective version based on their language

@cooltey I updated the requirements based on our conversation this morning. I added the firm date range (not sure if you did that here or if it'll just be in the config).

Display the total number of edits they have made during the time period January 1 - December 1, 2025 from their primary language Wiki

We no longer need to worry about:

  • The state for this slide should not cache/be frozen upon first open of the YiR. Calculate the report for this slide anytime the user opens Year in Review.
    • i.e. If I opened Year in Review on Dec 1 as a non-editor in 2025, then edited on December 2nd, when I open Year in Review on December 2nd it should recognize me as a contributor on this slide & the final contributor slide.

@cooltey i'm seeing this screen for logged-out users, when it should only be available to logged-in users:

Could you please test it again with the latest alpha APK? The flow will be reset based on your login status.

it's fixed now, TY!

i'm seeing a very niche issue -- when i log in and go through the flow, i see the correct logged-in screen "you edited Wikipedia X times," then if i log out and go through the flow again, i see the collective flow but I still see the "you edited Wikipedia X times," — when it should show the appropriate collective screen depending on EN vs non-EN. can we fix this? @cooltey

Hi @SChekfa-WMF

If you want to see the different routes of YiR, the best way to do it is to:

Go to "Settings" -> turn off "Year In Review" to clear the existing Year in Review data -> turn on "Year in Review" again -> go to the Year in Review feature to re-fetch the data so you will be seeing the correct route for this round.

Looks good on 2.7.50556-r-2025-11-13, on OnePlus 8 on Android 13, and Pixel 6 on Android 16. Tested logged in and out.
