An option to see file titles in search results of MediaSearch
Open, Needs TriagePublicFeature

Description

Feature summary (what you would like to be able to do and where):

In the media search it shows a wall of images with just the images where one has to click the images to see the detail panel. Please add an option to the search results page and/or the search preferences to see the file titles beneath or above the file.

Probably, the title should be cropped to the width of the image. Ideally, for longer titles that get trimmed when hovering over the image or that file-title the full title would roll in (text moving to the left so you can see the remaining title too).

Use case(s) (list the steps that you performed to discover that problem, and describe the actual underlying problem which you want to solve. Do not describe only a solution):

This is needed to see more info about lots of files at once, e.g. when one is searching for something specific that doesn't show only or nearly only relevant search results and that is unclear to see from just the visual image. There's countless reasons for why people may want to see the file titles too. This is why most other sites that have similar functionalities (searching/displaying for diverse images), also display titles somewhere. Note that the title should be displayed for all images at once, not just when hovering. One of the side-benefits is that one can search for terms with ctrl+F.

At a later point, one could also consider having an option for it to show the file caption instead if it exists or both.

Here is a concrete use-case where I needed this: categorizing files in Category:Illustrations by Hariadhi into Category:Diagrams of diseases and disorders using cat-a-lot. When having cat-a-lot enabled one can't even click the images to see the details panel but that wouldn't be a good solution anyway as one would have to click so many images, I'd like to see the titles at a glance / at once so I can select all the files clearly about a disease/disorder based on the visual or the file-title.

Benefits (why should this be implemented?):

One of the few plausible reasons why for some use-cases some users may still prefer to use the legacy SpecialSearch which does show the file titles in its one column of files; see e.g. T389725 MediaSearch should be better in every way and also in general this functionality is missing in that search UI.
