SRE Clinic Duty Confirmation Checklist for Access Requests

This checklist should be used on all access requests to ensure that all steps are covered, including expansion to existing access. Please double check the step has been completed before checking it off.

This section is to be confirmed and completed by a member of the SRE team.

  • - User has signed the L3 Acknowledgement of Wikimedia Server Access Responsibilities Document.
  • - User has a valid NDA on file with WMF legal. (All WMF Staff/Contractor hiring are covered by NDA. Other users can be validated via the NDA tracking sheet)
  • - User has provided the following: developer account username, email address, and full reasoning for access (including what commands and/or tasks they expect to perform)
  • - User has provided a public SSH key. This ssh key pair should only be used for WMF cluster access, and not shared with any other service (this includes not sharing with WMCS access, no shared keys.) NO SSH ACCESS REQUIRED
  • - The provided SSH key has been confirmed out of band and is verified not being used in WMCS. NO SSH KEY NEEDED
  • - access request (or expansion) has sign off of WMF sponsor/manager (sponsor for volunteers, manager for wmf staff)
  • - access request (or expansion) has sign off of group approver indicated by the approval field in data.yaml

Event Timeline

I approve this request on WMDE's end. Thank you!

I have not signed an NDA yet, I'm happy to receive the respective form/doc at maria.lechner AT wikimedia DOT de.

Hello @Maria_Lechner_WMDE , in my understanding you should follow https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Volunteer_NDA which requires a different Phabricator task to be opened and you'll receive instructions on it. Please link it to this one as "Related Task" for clarity. Thanks.

@Maria_Lechner_WMDE Please send an email to Katie Francis of Legal (https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:KFrancis_(WMF)) to get the NDA signing process started. Once she confirms here that is done we can complete the ticket and give you the needed groups.

@FCeratto-WMF You are right that LDAP group requests are technically a different type of ticket but this is a mix of both. They need LDAP groups "nda" and "wmde", like other WMDE staff but in addition they are also asking for "analytics-privatedata-users". That last one is tricky because it can be configured in 3 different ways. But they are saying no ssh needed.. so we can safely assume they mean the lowest of the 3 levels. That is that weird case where they are technically shell users but have no shell access.

This can be copied from existing access for other WMDE staff we just added, like "elishacohenwmde". See in data.yaml string ssh_keys: [] # Added with no SSH access, for membership in analytics-privatedata-users.

But they are saying no ssh needed.. so we can safely assume they mean the lowest of the 3 levels.

This is indeed what we want here. Basic access to Superset and Turnilo + access private data-based dashboards, per https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Data_Platform/Data_access#Access_Levels
