[Itch Grid] Immaculate Grid with movie Categories
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

As a movie buff, I want to play a daily Immaculate Grid with Wikipedia data (including Categories), so that I can test out my movie knowledge in a short, consumable fashion.

We previously worked on Immaculate Grid for Letterboxd, but were not able to push the game through. Since we're exploring Itch this month (October), we have the opportunity to make the game available to the public.

Acceptance Criteria

  1. Using existing material for Immaculate Grid, create a version of Grid for Itch. This game should also be a daily game with:
    • Only one level available per day
    • All users get served the same level
    • Whether you win or lose, you can only play the game once
  2. We will create a bank of levels, similar to the one we're using for Bridges. Similarly:
    • When we run out of levels, loop through the levels
    • These levels should be generated using only Wikipedia data. We must remove all Letterboxd data/connections, since the API Matt let us use was private and for our attempted partnership.
    • Levels may contain red herrings
    • Ideally, levels will contain at least one Wikipedia Category
  3. For the UI, we should mirror the Grid from Vulture.
    • We should have movie posters that players can tap/drag to boxes, rather than typing in movies
    • Players should drag in the movie posters they think are correct before hitting "submit" to send in answers
    • Players get 3 guesses before they lose (we can change the number if need be)
    • Wrong guess handling should be similar to Bridges (but slower this time): wrong posters wiggle in red and fall, the boxes they were in are red with the name of the movies that were there, correct posters have green borders
    • If a player loses, the correct board is revealed
  4. When the game is complete, players should see a post-game screen with:
    • The correct board
    • "Too bad!" or "Nice work!" depending on if the player got the grid right or not
    • Option to share. Similar to Bridges, they'll get the title, prompt (optional), date, solved/lost, tries used, etc. They will also get an emoji representation of their final guess. This should be three rows of square emojis: if the player won, all squares are green. If the player did not win, the wrong posters will be gray squares.
