weekly update (last short week due to holidays):

Wiki Workshop

  • Opened our 2026 venue and started modifying it for our needs
  • I also started putting together a tutorial for OpenReview to be shared with our Research Track chairs. I'm trying to make this simple but exhaustive so that we have it as documentation for future years (and with modifications also for WW).

Research Showcase

  • Held our October showcase focused on Wikidata.
  • Continued iterating on the January showcase.

WP 25th Birthday

  • Met with Miriam and Jerome to discuss our proposed Research Track. We made good progress on defining our goals and desired output. We plan to work on the high-level design elements and CFP in the next week and meet again.

Other

  • Working with Miriam to prepare a presentation on Wikimedia Research for an upcoming research-focused event hosted by WM Ukraine (and funded through the Research Fund)

weekly update:

Wiki Workshop
Continued work on the tutorial for OpenReview.
Confirmed updates to the submission form with the Research Track chairs.

Research Showcase
Met with the coordination team to sync on future showcases.
We are coordinating with MovementComms on the December showcase to make sure the questions take into account any current sensitivities.
Received some feedback from the coordination team on the January showcase.

WP 25th Birthday
Miriam, Jerome, and I agreed on the high-level design elements for the track and iterated on the core RQs we would like to include in the CFP.

DSA Access
Iterated on our internal process for private data requests.

Fellows Program
Officially launched the fellows program

weekly update:

Wiki Workshop
Working with EPFL to transfer technical support of the workshop to them

Research Showcase
Met with MovementComms to coordinate for the Dec showcases- we are good to go from their POV. We also confirmed the attendance of all of our panelists and have the questions for the panel nearly finalized.
Sent some personal invites for the January showcase.

WP 25th Birthday
I worked on the CFP for the event.
Miriam, Jerome, and I met to go over the CFP and potential keynote speakers.
We are coordinating with the Wikimania organizers on next steps.

Fellows Program
Working with Leila on clarifying the roles and responsibilities for decisions on fellow applications
Answered some emails from folks interested in applying and put together a draft FAQ based on questions received from them.

Other
Presented with Miriam at the WM Research Conference about WMF research trends and resources.
Supported a community member with a data request (T409781)
Provided some input on a recent report written by a community member about the 2024 Research Fund https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Wikipedia_Signpost/2025-11-10/Recent_research

weekly update (for week of Dec 1):

Wiki Workshop
Worked on advertising the CFP
Met with Research Track Chairs to support them on OR invites for reviewers which are set to be sent out around Dec 8.

Research Showcase
Continued shaping the January showcase.
Worked on logistics for the December showcase and it looks like we are set to go with our panel!

WP 25th Birthday
Miriam, Jerome, and I met to coordinate on some details around the CFP, general structure of the event, and keynote speaker invites.
Did some coordination for the ambassador work that Comms is leading.

Research Report
Supported putting together the template for the report and requesting input from the team. I also completed all of the relevant community-related subsections.

Other
I've been keeping track of the OpenReview bug situation that led to some unauthorized access to information on their site. We are not impacted and therefore the decision is not to take any further steps on this.

weekly update before going on end-of-year break:

Wiki Workshop
Supported the Research Track chairs and reviewer invitations have been sent out.
Technical support is being moved to EPFL and they are working on hiring students to do this. We should have someone on board by February 2026.

Research Showcase
January showcase invites have been sent out to groups I mapped as potential to join. The overall plan for the event has also been finalized.

WP 25th Birthday
After some iterations with the COT, we now have a finalized CFP for the lightning talks portion of the event and the overall timeline for submissions. We are still working on finalizing keynotes and the structure of the schedule.

Research Fund
The CFP has been shared publicly. I've added extra office hours in January for any questions that come up.

Other

  • Worked with CR to provide feedback for hub grants.
  • I had a couple of meetings with research community members in the past weeks to support them in getting datasets for a student-led datathon, connecting them to folks at WMF working on AI tools, and providing resources for WMF grant applications.
  • supporting NPOV research with Hebrew translations

closing this task as I'm closing the quarterly lane. adjust as needed. thanks for the work
