Gather qualitative feedback about Suggestion Mode MVP (Sr. Contributors)
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

In T406808, we will be conducting a usability study of Suggestion Mode MVP with newcomers.

This task involves the complimentary work of learning how senior contributors experience the Suggestion Mode MVP and the types of suggestions initially available within it.

Decision(s) to be made

This test is an effort to make the following decision(s)...

  • What (if any) adjustments will we make to the Suggestion Mode UX (broadly defined) before evaluating the impact of the experience through a controlled experiment (T404600)?

Research questions

I. Usefulness & clarity

  • Which (if any) suggestions do experienced volunteers consider compelling, clear, and ultimately, worth acting on?

II. Alignment and impact

  • Which suggestions do experienced volunteers consider aligned/misaligned with Wikipedia policies and/or guidelines?
  • Which (if any) suggestions do experienced volunteers consider a fit for newcomers who are likely to be editing for the first time?
  • What suggestion ideas would experienced volunteers like to see implemented?

III. Overall usability

  • What do experienced volunteers understand suggestions to mean? Asked another way: what do they intuitively understand the suggestion "cards" to mean? Do they recognize them as optional actions they can consider taking to improve the content of the article they're editing?
  • What – if any – facets of the overarching Suggestion Mode experience do experienced volunteers find confusing? E.g. see open questions "1." and 2." below.

Open questions

This section contains the questions/uncertainties that surface through designing the MVP. Prior to beginning the test, we'll decide which of these questions we'll prioritize using the usability test to help us answer.

  • 1. TBD
  • 2. TBD
  • 3. TBD

Usability testing findings

Acceptance criteria (or done)

  • Implement a prototype
  • Prepare communication (introduction of feature, intended impact, testing and feedback instructions, etc.)
  • Document summarized findings
