"Edit here" stopped jumping to the selected text section on android
Closed, ResolvedPublicBUG REPORT

Description

Steps to replicate the issue:

  • Open Wikipedia's android mobile app or Beta
  • Select text from an article
  • Click "edit here" in context menu (I use Wikipedia in French which uses the term "modifier ici" so the English term could differ a bit

What happens?:
The edition interface correctly opens but the "cursor"/view is placed at the start of the section that contains the text.

What should have happened instead?:
Instead, the cursor should be placed at the beginning of the selected text's location in the section. It was the behavior of a previous version of Wikipedia's mobile app (probably is more than a year old), so maybe the change was intentional and not a bug, though I find it less practical than before.

Software version (on Special:Version page; skip for WMF-hosted wikis like Wikipedia):
Version 2.7.50550-beta-2025-09-22

Appears to be fixed on 2.7.50551-beta-2025-10-14

Tested on Pixel 6 on Android 16 and OnePlus 8 on Android 13. Tested edit here on multiple languages.

The "jump to" behavior is fixed (thanks!) but seems that if the section contains multiple occurrences of the highlighted word, taping on "edit here" jumps to the first occurence instead of the exact selected word.

The same happens for words that contain a part of another. For example, go to the article "Multicellular organism", section "Evolutionary history", and select the word "multicellular", then tap "edit here": the word "multicellularity" (which appears before multicellular in the text) will be the one highlighted and jumped to in the edition interface, instead of multicellular.

Hi, created a separate task here https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T407562 (added you as subscriber, my apologies if that was a bothersome ping)
