Set up tracking for WE 2.1.5.
Open, HighPublic

Description

Similar to the previous experiment T398646, tracking set up is required for a new experiment T405298.

The experiment will target both logged in and anonymous users.

There will be an event registration page that users might discover in two ways: through direct outreach (email/message/social media posts) or via a featured content section on a wiki’s homepage.

On the event page, participants will find a series of calls to action, shared week by week.

The key actions we want to track include:

  • Clicks on the vital knowledge article template in the featured section on the homepage
  • Event registrations
  • Clicks on the VisualEditor and Content/Section Translation links

Flow so far to engage with onboarding material:

For now, we need tracking for the above links. @cchen, am I missing anything?

@hueitan Based on discussion with @cchen today, this is the flow for both logged-in and anonymous users. Links are tentative; we will have the exact URLs once all content is final.

Clicking on article links may occur in any order.

@hueitan There have been some changes to the scope of this hypothesis work. Based on recommendations from colleagues, we no longer plan to use a CentralNotice banner for this experiment.

Instead of a CN banner, we are now hoping users might discover the event page in two ways: through direct outreach (email/message/social media posts) or via a featured content section on a wiki’s homepage. The rest of the flow will remain the same for the links.

From what I remember from our last conversation, you would need functional event links in order to generate tracking links, right? If so, we may have those in about a month, as we are starting outreach to communities later this week. Once I have them, I’ll ping you. Apologies for the delay in sharing this update - this hypothesis was in limbo for a while.

Also, with these changes in scope, do you have an updated work estimate for this?
