When a remote Item is selected as a statement value, it should display in the same way as a local Item but include a small visual indicator showing that it originates from a federated source (e.g., a badge or icon such as “from Wikidata”). The indicator should appear consistently in both view and edit modes.
Context
Through previous user tests we discovered that user want a clear visual identification of remote entities. For Wikibase editors that already have implemented an ontology there might be vocabulary conflicts between local items and remote items since they can be very similar or even the same. Therefore it is mandatory to have at least one small UI element that indicates remote items from Wikidata.
Attached mockups conform styling of remote items in autocomplete search box results and on item page.
Acceptance criteria:
- When a statement’s value is a remote item, the value displays normally with a visible indicator that it is from Wikidata
- Local items remain unchanged
An open question here about whether we use "Wikidata" (the repository key) or "www.wikidata.org" as the label text. Presumably "Wikidata", but then we should at least give peripheral thought about the fact that the "repository" key is officially deprecated. > PM: We stick to "Wikidata" for now
