After legal and Movement Comms confirms that the translation strings look good for these wikis, turn then on via the $wmgUseLegalFooterContactLink config in mediawiki-config.

I can confirm I am seeing "Contactos para cuestiones legales y de seguridad" on https://es.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Portada&uselang=es
Checked on Spanish, Italian, French, and Polish wikis - looks as expected.
Moving Sign off by @SToyofuku-WMF - some notes below to review:
(1) In the document Legal footer update (2025) the proposed footer has a forward slash / in the format for es and fr lang. The translated message do not have /, and since the translations have been approved, I assume it's ok.
(2) for itwiki and plwiki the doc says that there should be a sidebar link to Contacts. The link is present but it points to a different location than the footer link.

(3) The footer links direct to en version of the page not to specific lang page, although the lang-specific pages exist.
The issue was reported as T389939: Wikimedia footer links that use Special:MyLanguage should also use `?uselang=`. Since it's not specific to this particular footer (i.e. "footer-places-legal-safety-contacts"), addressing it is outside the scope for this particular task.
Re. 2. (@SToyofuku-WMF @Etonkovidova): correct, the specification doc was just noting that a sidebar Contacts link was an existing feature on those wikis, but we are not affecting those with this project. The local community is free to keep a link like that (or even better, they could update the community page it points to, so that it mentions our new link).
I was unaware of T389939: Wikimedia footer links that use Special:MyLanguage should also use `?uselang=` - let's hope that gets resolved, since indeed, it's not great UX, especially for the various legal links in the footer (terms of use, privacy policy, etc)
I've solved the issue on German Wikipedia by creating https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Wikimedia-legal-safety-contacts-url and changing the url to https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/Legal:Wikimedia_Foundation_Legal_and_Safety_Contact_Information/de – that's probably what other large Wikipedia language versions should do as well, otherwise all readers will get the English version when clicking on the Special:MyLanguage link.
I checked all the phase 1 wikis in production and all of them look good except for a small detail on fr.wiki. I believe the word "Contact" should be updated to "Autre aide" per legal's guidance, but right now it still displays as Contact.

@STei-WMF Would you be able to help us with the fr.wiki change in my comment above? I believe this is an on-wiki change and doesn't require engineers to do it. I'll wait for that change before I sign off on the legal footer phase 1 ticket!

Moving to signoff column of sprint 12. Assuming that the fr admins are still coming back from holiday break and haven't had a chance to make the change yet!
Since the frwiki admins are aware of this, they can make a decision for whether to rename Contacts in the future, as this is not essential for the scope of phase 1's ask. Will be closing this phab task!
