Gadgets usage and impact analysis

Description

Overview
As part of this task T410699 to explore the concept of a starter kit, an emerging first step is to see if a list of curated, high-impact gadgets can be integrated into a starter kit with an option to install them with one click. A few data points are needed to refine the concept and scope of the exploration from Q3 onwards. A few questions that have analytics needs are as follows:

  • What are the most impactful / popular Wikimedia gadgets?
  • How should we define impactful and popular gadgets for a Starter Kit?
  • How many Wikimedia wikis are using these gadgets?
  • How many edits have been made using these gadgets?
  • How many users does each gadget have?
  • How many Wikimedia wikis don’t have these gadgets enabled and might benefit from the enablement?

The analysis is updated in the spreadsheet, we are looking at all active Wikipedia.

@cchen Thanks for this analysis!

Looking at the edits and users data, I’m wondering if we might be missing something in the spreadsheet when comparing it with the data listed at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:GadgetUsage. In the spreadsheet, we only have monthly data, whereas on GadgetUsage these seem to be overall statistics. For example, for Navigation Popups, we see 0 users in the spreadsheet. Do you know why that might be the case?

Also, if the monthly data is negligible, I’m wondering if it would be possible to look at data over a longer period, say the last 1 or 5 years.
