Description

The Web team recently produced a logged-out reader retention analysis that defined New, Casual, and Active Reader segments and established baseline retention patterns and metrics across desktop and mobile web.
We need to replicate the same methodology for iOS and Android apps so that product decisions across platforms are consistent and comparable.

Task

This task is for the Apps Product Analyst to:

  1. Recreate the same cohort analysis structure
  2. Compute equivalent retention metrics for the apps
  3. Produce baselines and distributions for New / Casual / Active readers
  4. Surface any differences in return patterns relative to web

The reference document is “Retention Metrics Overview” (Jennifer Wang & Olga Vasileva, Nov 2025).
