I don't know where Indic-TechCom has its main issue tracker. It is not a good idea to have two places (Github and Phabricator) where folks can post issues.

I was able to reproduce a similar issue today (March 29, 2026). I attempted to transfer https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:An_indigenous_broom.jpg from Commons to Wikimedia Meta using the live tool at wikifile-transfer.toolforge.org.
The transfer failed at Step 3 ("Name of Target File") with: AxiosError: Request failed with status code 500
This is a different error code from the original report (502), which may indicate two separate failure modes — one in the upstream proxy (502) and one in the Flask backend itself (500). The 500 suggests an unhandled exception in the application code.
I'm currently setting up a local development environment and have been going through the codebase on GitHub to familiarize myself with the project. I would be happy to help investigate and contribute a fix.
