Could some better process please be found here than filing lots of account approval tasks with little context?

I think this is part of some mentorship program (Wiki-Mentor-Africa?). In that case it would be better to structure things so that the mentors add their mentees to Trusted-Contributors (which will automatically trigger a GitLab account approval) themselves, rather than requiring me or the Release Engineering team to do it.

@Pppery I still have not been granted access

Whoops, I was so focused on bemoaning the process failure that I forgot to actually push the button to approve you despite intending to do so. Try again please.

@Pppery, I am sorry for reopening this. I do not have your user name on the channel. Please, I have my team mates who have not had access yet. Please, can I provide you with a list of their names so you can authenticate

I am not an official mentor in any way, or affiliated with whatever program you're in. I'm doing this as a courtesy, to try to be helpful. And the repeated pleading for me to take action (rather than addressing the process failure I quoted above) has exhausted my willingness to care.

Actually you can approve your own teammates. Assuming their LDAP accounts are connected to their Phabricator accounts, you can go to https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/project/members/3104/, click "add members", type their Phabricator usernames, and click "add members" to save.

Then wait 5 minutes and it should trigger https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Tool:Gitlab-account-approval to automatically approve them.
