However we have two different event sources available: suggestion_recent_edit and suggestion_previous_edits, and both should be used to differentiate these two cases.

From my side I feel that suggestion_recent_edit source may be more suitable for case B., judging from the list title. On the other hand, I mean not sure how would a change like this in the instrumentation of the most prominent (until now) filter, would impact the analysis process, and whether it would break some existing code and introduce more technical debt.
