Long Term Goal
There is an increased awareness of the Wikibase Ecosystem, and our existing communities are actively engaged and supported.
Q1 & Q2
In order to better understand the needs of our users on the visibility of the Wikibase instances available on the ecosystem, we deliver a prototype, by the end of Q2, that facilitates ecosystem-wide discovery of stable Wikibases that are intended for federation or reuse by wider audiences.
Context:
The Wikibase ecosystem has grown to 2.000+ instances, including ~3 billion triples. While the diversity of usage and data is growing, the actual overview and discovery of meaningful instances can be challenging. We want to change that by enabling an ecosystem explorer that exposes Wikibases that are intended for data reuse, giving users the possibility to identify stable Wikibases that provide well-maintained datasets with consistent access.
While we assume the need for such an explorative tool is given, we are missing a clear understanding of user needs. With our first initiative, we aim to get evidence-based insights about user profiles and their specific goals on discovering Wikibases. Based on these insights, we will iterate on the prototype, reaching quantitative (click-through rate) and qualitative goals (positive user feedback).
