UploadWizard does not re-check if a category exists and displays a warning message even the category was already created
Open, Needs TriagePublicBUG REPORT

Description

Steps to replicate the issue

  • Upload an image with UploadWizard and add a category that does not exist
  • Create the category that was added to the image and dd not exist at that time
  • Finish the upload process and re-enter the upload loop of UploadWizard
  • Add the same category again

What happens?:
UploadWizard displays an error message even the category was already created hours ago

Example for File:6020 Sieglanger, Inn mit Inntal Autobahn A12 2023-09-11.jpg:
Category:Inn River in Tyrol (state) in 2023 was created on 22:26, 7. Feb. 2026. The file was uploaded on 01:36, 8. Feb. 2026. Even after many cycles of re-entering the update loop from UploadWizard and multiple uploads with the same category in different loops (see personal file upload history on Commons) I still got this error message when I added the already existing category to the file:

Screenshot From 2026-02-08 01-22-43.png (218×868 px, 95 KB)

Translated message text: The category highlighted in red does not exist and is missing a description page. If a similar category exists, we recommend using that one. If not, please go to the new category page and add a description.

What should have happened instead?:
UploadWizard re-checks if the category exists and does not display the error message
