Temporary instance increase for Bullseye servers deprecation
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Project Name: glam wiki dashboard
Type of quota increase requested: instance count
Amount to increase: 10 more vcpus, 20GB more RAM, 40GB more Volume/Size/Space (for the servers, not the data)
(With resources and access permissions like serviceapp.glamwikidashboard.eqiad1.wikimedia.cloud and webapp.glamwikidashboard.eqiad1.wikimedia.cloud but not Bullseye this time)
Reason: BullsEye deprecation process (max expected time until old instances will be deleted: 1 month)

Event Timeline

@Aklapper Hi, making sure if my request was received.
It seems I'm required to finish the transition process from Bullseye by the end of February.
I'm not sure how difficult it will be - but I anticipate it won't be easy.

Hi, I'm not involved in this, I am just subscribed. :) I assume the WMCS team will look at this ticket at some point. If not, see https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Cloud_Services_communication

T401804: Cloud VPS Debian Bullseye deprecation tracks coordination around the deprecation. This task is not related to coordinating the upgrade.

Tagging Cloud-VPS (Quota-requests) so that this request will actually be picked up by the quota requests process.

Thank you. Does it mean that my project's servers will be deleted on 1/3 even if I don't finish migrating them?

Also - Now I think maybe what I'm technically missing is the resources that are in red:

That is VCPUs, RAM and Volume.
Should I change the issue description?

Should I change the issue description?

Yes please, with the resources you need (it seems you have enough instance quota).

My guess would be +10 CPUs and +20GB RAM, but please double check and request what you actually need.

The volume usually you can detach from the ald instance and attach to the new one, so no new volume would be needed (depends on what you use it for though).

Added also request for 40GB volume - I see that each server has such space - I guess it is possible that the new ones will also need "new" space like that.

Thanks for updating it!

+1 from me

Each instance comes with it's own space for the OS and such, it's not counted in the volumes size (that is only for external attachable/detachable volumes), should not be required.

Ok cool!
Do you know when it will be done?
I'm a little worried about the wiki tech supporters shutting down my servers on 1.3 (though I think they won't, I marked it as active in the 2025 purge list)
