Re-analyze edit completion rate among logged in Junior Contributors (mobile web)
Open, MediumPublic

Description

In T409112#11616239, we decided [i] to move forward with deploying the Edit full page experience to all users at all wikis.

In making this choice, we recognized that the A/B experiment showed a -19.5% decrease in users who started to type. While we think the magnitude of this decrease is likely inflated by this logging bug, we want to make sure this decrease is not translating into an enduring and significant decrease in edit completion rate.

We're going to use this ticket to verify the above.

Decision(s) to be made

  • 1. What (if any) further investigation(s) into and/or refinements of the Edit full page UX will the Editing Team prioritize work on?

Learning objective(s)

How (if at all) has the edit completion rate among logged-in junior contributors editing a page in any Wikipedia's main namespace varied in the weeks (exact TBD) before and after the deployment of the Edit full page button?

i. Note: at the time of writing this ticket, we'd not received feedback from all members of the Editing Team. Accordingly, there is a possibility that we revise the path forward Megan and I proposed in T409112#11616239.

How (if at all) has the edit completion rate among logged-in junior contributors editing a page in any Wikipedia's main namespace varied in the weeks (exact TBD) before and after the deployment of the Edit full page button?

I reviewed edit completion rates across all Wikipedias 2 weeks before and after the deployment of the Edit Full page button on 24 February 2026. Data was limited to the following users and edit types:

  • Opened the mobile VE section editor
  • Initiated in a main namespace
  • Completed by registered users with 100 or fewer edits

See results summarized below:

Overall Section Edit Completion Rates

Time PeriodSection Edit Completion Rate
pre36.9%
post36.3%

Overall, we observed a -1.7% decrease in edit completion rate following deployment of the Edit full page experience to all wikis. This is smaller decline than what was observed in the AB test (-5.8% decrease. See T409112#11616239) and may be impacted by other external factors as well.

Daily Section Edit Completion Rate
We have not observed any significant declines or spikes in completion rates following deployment, as shown in the chart below:

Edit Completion Rates with Edit Full Page Engagement

Edit completion rates for users who engaged with the Edit Full page button are higher. Users who click the Edit full page button are 6.7% more likely to complete their edit compared to users who did not click the button following deployment. This aligns with the finding in T415336#11563723 that users who click this button are likely more high-intent users, who clicked that section editor with the goal of making an edit.
