Steps to replicate the issue (include links if applicable):
- Look at https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:FilmFrauen/Berlinale-Edit-a-thon_2026 with the LintHint script enabled (see https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benutzer:Jonesey95/common.js for how to enable it in your common.js)
- See that LintHint reports two Linter errors
- Then look at https://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:FilmFrauen/Berlinale-Edit-a-thon_2026&action=info#mw-pageinfo-linter to see that "Page information" shows zero Linter errors.
- Repeat the process with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Signpost/2026-02-17/Opinion and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Reference_desk/Archives/Science/2012_September_24
What happens?:
The LintHint script, according to its developer, "is just reporting that is there an entry in MediaWiki LINT database, queried by API."
Somehow, LintHint queries the database and produces a different result from whatever generates "Page information" Linter error listings.
What should have happened instead?:
LintHint and Page information should show the same errors for mainstream errors like "missing end tag" and "stripped tag". (LintHint ignores dark mode errors at this time.)
Software version (on Special:Version page; skip for WMF-hosted wikis like Wikipedia):
This appears to be a problem caused by a recent change, probably sometime in early 2026. Here are three recent threads (February 2026 and March 2026) related to these new discrepancies:
