[S] Rename "Explore" to "Home"
Open, MediumPublic3 Estimated Story Points

Description

Background

The apps team has heard feedback that the "Explore" naming of the feed is confusing, especially when navigating back to Explore from an article. The Explore tab essentially functions as a "Home" tab, which is more common across other apps.

User Story

As a mobile app user, I want the "Explore" tab to be renamed to "Home," So that I can intuitively navigate back to the main feed after reading an article, using familiar navigation patterns I recognize from other apps.

Requirements

  • Update the explore feed icon and label in the tabbar to "Home"
  • Provide clear context within the translation instructions to volunteers
  • Update the settings screen to utilize "Home" instead of "Explore"
  • Within the article view overflow menu, update Explore label and icon to Home
  • Accessibility labels and screen reader text are updated to reflect the new name
  • The updated label is reflected in any in-app references, tooltips, or onboarding copy that mention "Explore"

Note: Since the other requests are label updates, I expect they can be handled in code without design work. Please let me know if you need mockups for anything else.

@HNordeenWMF, this is ready since I did this together with an Explore feed task - I moved to P1 column since this was lower on my list.

cooltey renamed this task from Rename "Explore" to "Home" to [S] Rename "Explore" to "Home".Mar 23 2026, 5:27 PM
cooltey set the point value for this task to 3.

Design QA done - all the places I could find that would say "Explore" are saying "Home" now.

I also used TalkBack for those screens and could hear the label - with 1 exception: the Customize Toolbar screen doesn't announce any of the labels, making it hard to organize them. But this is not an issue with this specific update. I'll file a backlog ticket for that. @SChekfa-WMF could you please take a look at this ticket and let me know if I missed any possible instances of the previous "Explore" feed mentions? Since you are more familiar with the app, maybe there is a hidden area I didn't see. Thanks!

@TLessa-WMF just looked through this, the only other one I could think of is this list item in settings:

also, another place to check is snackbars across the app, maybe eng could do a quick search for "Explore" in the snackbars and replace with "Home" — for ex. we used to have a snackbar for games that referenced explore but now references the Games Hub, and I'm not sure if we have any similar situations for other features but worth a check in the code

Thanks @SChekfa-WMF - The above has been updated. @cooltey, could you please verify if all snackbars that reference "Explore" are updated? Once we have the green light from you, this should be good to go.

Talked to Cooltey, all snackbars were updated in code.
