Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

This is a task to update Test Kitchen documentation, https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Data_Platform/Data_access , https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/SRE/LDAP/Groups , and https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Data_Platform/Systems/Growthbook in alignment with T419622: Verify GrowthBook access approach and the task graph descending form T417912: FY25-26 SDS2.2.7 / SDS 2.3.3 Application Permissions, regarding access control.

Scheduled reminders set for May 19, 2026 to update the documentation, with hopeful delivery of automated access wireup in place by then.

Actions

  • Send email to users who will be part of the initial bulk load
  • Send instant message on talk-to IM chat channel with Experiment Platform Team
  • Update documentation

Event Timeline

I've set reminders for May 13 & 14, 2026 for myself to update the documentation on wiki, my thought being the systems are likely to be in place by around then (and if not, can push it back a little). I realized it's better to just write this once rather than write and rewrite it. @JVanderhoop-WMF and @KReid-WMF are marked as Optional on my calender reminders for visibility (and in hopes of prompts if needed just in case).

Bumping reminder to self to next week.

@dr0ptp4kt: Hi! I was bold and updated the docs:

Also sent a message out on #talk-to-experiment-platform:

Hello and happy Friday!

We are getting ready to launch the new Wikimedia IDM-based system for managing access to GrowthBook, the software that is replacing TK UI and TK AA for configuration and analysis of experiments, respectively.

Next Tuesday (May 26th), we will turn on the new access system for the production instance (growthbook.wikimedia.org). When we do, some of you may lose access.

The new system will require membership in one of these 3 LDAP groups:

to log in and use GrowthBook. We have manually added some users to those groups in advance.

If you see your username on any of those lists, no further action needed. When you log in for the first time, it may take up to 30 minutes for your permissions in GrowthBook to be adjusted based on your LDAP group membership.

If you don't see your username on any list and would like to request access to GrowthBook OR if you are on a list but would like a different level of access, please follow the instructions at https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Data_Platform/Systems/Growthbook#Requesting_access

If you have any questions about the process or feedback about that documentation, please reach out to us here in #talk-to-experiment-platform.

Thank you,
Mikhail on behalf of the Experiment Platform team

I think this task is done?

Thank you.

I think this task is done?

There's just a little more, with the system expectation verbiage (with a little bit of extra modification on the email/IM I sent earlier in the week based on your suggestions), and I was thinking to copy the material from steps 2, 3, and 4 from T419622: Verify GrowthBook access approach to the right place as well, so that it's findable on Wikitech, too. I thought about just linking to the task, but hopefully the task can be more frozen in time, whereas the Wikitech stuff could be relatively stable, but subject to further improvement as process things are bound to change a little over time. Okay if I do that post the rollout? I was considering if there's some mild tweak to how things actually work as we see the automated system in practice I may want to just edit all in one pass right after true prod rollout.
