UX Discovery Task: Personal Homepage / Dashboard Exploration

Goal
Understand the current landscape of contributor entry points, feeds, and dashboards, identify strengths and gaps, and explore potential directions for a unified personal dashboard that supports the full reader to editor to moderator journey.

• MVP release: We should consider a MVP release in which we move existing modules with minimal changes (not a full rewrite of modules or Homepage functionality).
• Long-term vision: We can also consider bolder long-term plans, but keep in mind that the first step for this project will need to be released before December 2026.

Scope of work

1. Comparative review of existing related experiences

• on wiki feeds, dashboards, homepages, and task centers
• non-wiki wiki dashboards and feeds we should use as inspiration

2. Synthesis of patterns and gaps
Identify:

• Common UX patterns that are effective across experiences
• Key inconsistencies or fragmentation across Wikimedia entry points
• Missing capabilities (for example: progression systems, personalization, cross-role support)

3. Exploration of design directions
Develop 2–4 high-level conceptual directions for a unified homepage, such as:

• Task-driven hub (focus on recommended actions / feed of actions)
• Progression-driven experience (levels, milestones, learning paths)
• Impact-centered dashboard (contributions, outcomes, recognition)
• Modular / customizable workspace (role-based or user-configured)

4. Identification of open questions and risks
Document key unknowns to inform future research and experimentation, such as:

• How to balance personalization with community control
• How to support multiple roles without overwhelming users
• How progression will serve as a learning path and motivator
• How can we avoid requiring new account holders to make so many decisions up front? / What could be the future of the Welcome Survey?

Acceptance criteria

• early designs and ideas to share and help guide discussion
• Share ideas and iterate based on feedback from Growth and Moderator Tools PMs and Designer.
