Description

As part of Article Guidance (T396029) we plan to launch an experiment to evaluate the effectiveness of a new workflow for article creation. The main entry point for the experiment will be the article creation through red links (T420385), but we want to consider other prominent ways users create contents in the different pilot wikis (T414448).

Investigating existing workflows for article creation (T414535#11620008) on the pilot wikis, a significant case was identified: on Turkish Wikipedia there is a prominent invite to create new articles. This is relevant for the experiment because:

  • It supports a different usecase than redlinks: creation of any user-proposed article. As opposed to redlinks which normally represent items communities have flagged as missing (i.e., more likely to be valid articles).
  • It is supported by a different workflow: the Turkish Wikipedia Homepage invite leads users to Article wizard. As opposed to redlinks that go directly to Visual Editor. This will allow to compare the impact of two different guided experience (Article Wizard and Article Guidance).
  • It is an existing entry point with high deletion rates. We are not introducing a new entry point. So there is minimal risk of increasing the volume of new articles created (compared to adding an article creation option to the homepage of a Wikipedia without one). For junior editors on mobile, the overall deletion rate we measured during last year was 93%, so it seems a good candidate to incorporate into the experiment.

The ticket is focused on connecting the existing invite with the Article Guidance Workflow in the context of the experiment. We want to make sure we have the capacity to implement this entry point but also ensure that it will be only used by those in the test group of the experiment.

SBisson moved this task from Prioritized to In-progress on the LPL Hypothesis board.

Change #1260761 had a related patch set uploaded (by Sbisson; author: Sbisson):

[mediawiki/extensions/ArticleGuidance@master] Allow configuring redirect entrypoints

I am not sure if there is a way to design signoff this task, hence moving it to product signoff column. I am not sure if this related but I tried "create article" link available on patch demo and it does take me to article guidance flow.

Added a note (T417046#11838132) to verify instrumentation works for the end-to-end workflow once it is available.
