Request to unlock GitLab account
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Hi,

I recently created a GitLab account to contribute to Wikimedia projects (CampWiz).

However, my account is currently locked. I am a new contributor and not yet part of the Trusted Contributors group.

Could you please review and unlock my account?

Phabricator username: Amitkhatri89
GitLab username: khatriamitkumar97

Thanks!

However, my account is currently locked.

What makes you think so? What is the full URL to your GitLab account? What is the full and exact error message that you receive?

Please also link your LDAP account to your Phabricator account, so your 'LDAP User' account is shown on your Phabricator profile. Thanks.

Hi,

Thanks for your response.

Here are the details:

GitLab account:
I do not yet have an account on gitlab.wikimedia.org.
I only have a GitLab account on gitlab.com:
https://gitlab.com/khatriamitkumar97

Error message:
While linking LDAP in Phabricator (Settings → External Accounts → LDAP → Link External Account), I receive:
"Username or password are incorrect."

Additional details:

  • I am using the same username and password as my Wikimedia (MediaWiki / Wikitech) account.
  • I am able to log in successfully on Wikitech.
  • My Phabricator account is also created with the same email and username.

However, LDAP authentication still fails and I am unable to link my LDAP account.

This seems like a backend or account sync issue. Could you please check if my LDAP (developer) account is properly set up or activated?

Thanks for your help.

To confirm, have you created an account via https://idm.wikimedia.org/ / are you able to sign-in on that site? If not, you should be able to create one by following the link from https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Developer_account. (An account that can be used to sign-in to https://idm.wikimedia.org/ is what's generally referred to as a 'developer account', IIUC.)

If/when you have an https://idm.wikimedia.org/ account, you should then be able to use it to sign-in at https://gitlab.wikimedia.org/. (At which point, your Wikimedia GitLab account may need to be activated.)

  • I am using the same username and password as my Wikimedia (MediaWiki / Wikitech) account.

What makes you think so? Please link to your LDAP account.

  • I am able to log in successfully on Wikitech.

That seems irrelevant here as this is about an LDAP account, not a MediaWiki/Wikitech/SUL account.

  • My Phabricator account is also created with the same email and username.

That seems irrelevant here as this is about an LDAP account, not a Phabricator account.

However, LDAP authentication still fails and I am unable to link my LDAP account.

We still do not know what your LDAP account is.
Again: Please tell us what your LDAP account is.

Thanks! I've approved your Wikimedia GitLab account, now that it got created.
Happy hacking! :)

Sir, I have successfully created my LDAP account and now I am able to access GitLab. Thank you for your guidance and support!

Sir, I am currently a 3rd year student with basic knowledge of the MERN stack. I have recently set up my GitLab access and started exploring the project I am interested in for GSoC.

Although I am not selected yet, I am really interested in contributing and learning. Could you please suggest any beginner-friendly tasks or issues that I can start working on? I would also be happy to contribute to other areas where my skills can be useful.

Looking forward to your guidance.

@Amitkhatri89 Welcome! You can take a look over here:

This might be helpful to find one. It can be tricky to find truly simple first tasks (because the really easy ones are usually resolved quickly) but that is the intention of the special tag "good first task".
