A user on enwiki who is no longer enrolled as a mentor is still receiving mentorship questions from newcomers. Evidence suggests that mentees assigned prior to mentor unenrollment may not be reassigned, causing mentorship messages to continue being delivered to former mentors.
Description
A user (GrayStorm) reported receiving a mentorship question despite no longer being enrolled as a mentor.
They confirmed that visiting the Mentor Dashboard redirects them to the mentorship enrollment page, indicating they are not currently an active mentor. (And they are not currently listed in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:ManageMentors as a Mentor).
Another user (ExtantRotations) confirmed that GrayStorm still appears as their assigned mentor in the system. This indicates that mentor–mentee relationships may persist after a mentor leaves the program, without reassignment.
Hypothesis
Mentor–mentee assignments are (occasionally?) not cleaned when a mentor unenrolls (perhaps this is only happening on larger wikis when the script times out?).
Acceptance Criteria
- Ensure the script / system to automatically reassign all mentees when a mentor unenrolls is functioning as expected.
- Consider a cleanup script for legacy mentor assignments.
