Unable to access GitLab due to 2FA prompt before setup
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Hello,

I’m trying to log into GitLab via Wikitech SSO. After entering my username and password, I’m redirected to a GitLab two-factor authentication verification screen asking for a code from an authenticator app.

However, I have never set up a 2FA authenticator app for GitLab, so I’m unable to provide a code or access my account settings to configure 2FA.

Could someone please help reset or disable the GitLab 2FA requirement on my account so I can log in and set it up properly?

Thank you.

Event Timeline

I’m trying to log into GitLab via Wikitech SSO.

I'm not sure what "Wikitech SSO" is, maybe you mean IDP?

(Any admin should be able to strip MFA from your account; probably should wait for the work week to start in order to verify this request in other venues)

In my understanding this request ideally would get verified via a video call (I'm afraid I'm not in the best timezone for that).
Afterwards, a GitLab admin can do the needed action at https://gitlab.wikimedia.org/admin/users/bgwiki

Thanks Andre. I'm happy to set that up. Would you happen to know with whom I should meet? Or how I can figure that out? Thanks for your help.

I figured it out. Turns out a long time ago I saved some recovery codes onto to my laptop. Thank you
