Steps to replicate the issue (include links if applicable):
- Go to Special:GlobalPreferences on zh.wikipedia.org (wgContentLanguage = zh) and change the “Content language variant” option under “Internationalisation” to a value other than zh. Make sure you do not enable “Set a local exception for this global preference”.
- Visit Chinese Wikipedia Main Page and confirm that the page is rendered in the variant you selected.
- Repeat the first step on Special:GlobalPreferences on sr.wikipedia.org (wgContentLanguage = sr), but this time select a variant other than sr.
What happens?:
- The Chinese variant previously configured at Chinese Wikipedia is lost.
- Visiting Chinese Wikipedia Main Page now shows the zh variant (“不转换”).
What should have happened instead?:
Variant settings for different languages should be stored separately, instead of all being stored in the same variant field and polluting each other as they currently do.
