The Azerbaijani {{grammar:}} function is not implemented in LanguageAz.php. Azerbaijani is a fully agglutinative Turkic language with six noun cases, number forms, and other grammatical transformations needed to correctly inflect wiki project names and interface strings (e.g. "in Wikipedia", "from Wikipedia", "of Wikipedia", "the 5th revision").
The following grammar cases should be implemented. All are governed by vowel harmony: back vowels (a, ı, o, u) take back-vowel suffixes; front vowels (e, ə, i, ö, ü) take front-vowel suffixes. A buffer consonant -y- is inserted when a vowel-initial suffix follows a vowel-final stem.
Gremmatical cases
| Case | Form key | Suffix pattern | Example (ev = house) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nominative (adlıq) | nominative | (unmarked) | ev |
| Genitive (yiyəlik) | genitive | -in/-ın/-un/-ün (after vowel: -nin/-nın/-nun/-nün) | evin |
| Dative (yönlük) | dative | -ə/-a (after vowel: -yə/-ya) | evə |
| Accusative (təsirlik) | accusative | -i/-ı/-u/-ü (after vowel: -ni/-nı/-nu/-nü) | evi |
| Locative (yerlik) | locative | -də/-da | evdə |
| Ablative (çıxışlıq) | ablative | -dən/-dan | evdən |
Third person predicative suffix (-dir4) for messages like "Number is N" (Rəqəm N-dir)
Usage
These cases are invoked via {{GRAMMAR:case|word}} in interface messages, for example:
{{GRAMMAR:locative|Vikipediya}} → Vikipediyada
{{GRAMMAR:genitive|Vikipediya}} → Vikipediyanın
{{GRAMMAR:ablative|Vikipediya}} → Vikipediyadan
{{GRAMMAR:ordinal|3}} → 3-cü
