Revise Tone Structured Task: end experiment on Pilot wikis

Description

Release Revise Tone task as default on pilot wikis included in the currently running A/B test: Arabic Wikipedia, English Wikipedia, French Wikipedia, and Portuguese Wikipedia.

Waiting for the code that makes Revise Tone available to everyone to arrive on Production. ETA: July 9th. After that, the experiment can be formally ended in Test-Kitchen and the instrumentation code removed.

For Tech News:

Revise Tone encourages users to improve the tone on existing articles. It was A/B tested for 4 months on Arabic, English, French, and Portuguese Wikipedias. Newcomer task completion rates rose by 38.7% compared to the default Copyedit task, with no drop in edit quality. The test ended on July 9, and the feature is now available for everyone on these wikis, configurable via Community Configuration. A release t more wikis will be planned.

Suggested revision:

Revise Tone helps newcomers identify passages in Wikipedia articles that may contain non-encyclopedic language and encourages them to consider revising the tone. The feature was A/B tested on the Arabic, English, French, and Portuguese Wikipedias, where newcomer task completion rates increased by 38.7% compared to the default Copyedit task, with no decrease in edit quality. The test ended on July 9, and the feature is now available for everyone on these wikis, configurable via Community Configuration. Releasing Revise Tone to more wikis is planned.

The change includes:

  • Typo fix
  • Remove "for 4 months" language. The task has been available to 50% of all users on our pilot wikis since March 31, 2026, but technically we published experiment results as soon as we reached statistical significance. We simply delayed the rollout until now due to our attempt to focus on other work (account creation experiments).
  • Added a little more clarity about what the task does
