- Context.
This is the research project for which I've done the initial scoping and confirmation, based on the research request that had come in via Asana to RDS that had come from Selena originally (https://app.asana.com/1/3758245663860/project/1205562963911611/task/1213559670878311?focus=true).
After a meeting with Selena and two followup meetings with Maryana P, I proposed splitting their request into two separate studies and created outlines for the studies, one of which is this one, and Selena replied to me today "This all sounds good to me."
- Description.
Understanding the readers coming to Wikipedia, from different referrers. What are their motivations for visiting Wikipedia, particularly when coming from a media or AI chatbot referrer? Mixed-method approach: large-scale survey + followup qual interviews with a subset. Led by Yu-Ming (with tbd UX Research contractor leading qual part)
Draft research plan (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1f4gRzju-DlDLuifUnp_H2w-JcybGq1KZUIF6gulGKF8/edit?tab=t.0)
- Estimated Effort.
Debra will hand over to Yu-Ming to lead starting next week. There's still a lot to figure out with the study approach, and room for Yu-Ming to shape/change it.
Yu-Ming will start the work now in Q4 after he completes his current work on WE3.6.11 (have discussed this with Miriam). Work will go into Q1. We consider this part of the "Foundational research on big questions" bucket of our Reader growth Research team roadmap.
