Swap icons in preferences
Open, Needs TriagePublicFeature

Description

Hi. Reading lists is a very good feature. But nearly every experienced user I know that tryed it said it's great but I'll never use it because it removes the watchstar, which makes the workflow impossible. Including me. So, could you please add a new entry to [[Special:Preferences]], "swap reading lists icon with the watchstar". As default, it will be off, and the layout remains as is, the bookmark icon shown, the watchstar icon hidden in the Tools menu. But if users decide to turn it on, the watchstar will return to it's regular place, and the bookmark icon (with some proper text message) will move to the Tools menu, remaining available, but not forcing to lose the watchstar. It will make sence much more now, when the Tools main entries get icons. Thank you.

@IKhitron: Thanks for reporting this. For future reference, please use the feature request form (linked from the top of the task creation page) to create feature requests, and fill in all the sections in the template. Thanks.

Yes, it's exactly what I did. You can see the Feature tag on the top. Of course, I didn't leave the bold font headers, but the rest done as is.

HI @IKhitron ! Thank you for your thoughtful feedback and suggestions here! We are in the process of exploring an alternative design that allows both Watch and Save functionalities to co-exist on the desktop view (we did explore a toggle, as we showed in some earlier designs, but ultimately realized that a lot of less experienced users have trouble finding and navigating the preferences list). Please take a look and let us know what you think! https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T426453

While the solution is different, I believe T426131: Update tools belt to accommodate watch and bookmark and update page tools to only show icons at lower resolutions resolves the problem raised in this ticket. We are now showing both bookmark and watch.
